Hirschmann absorbs PAT

Hirschmann MCS has launched a new magnetic fSENS MLS force sensor, to support weighing a container by measuring the force on the twistlocks on any type of crane or lift truck that has a spreader. The system can weigh both statically and dynamically, and can be integrated into existing processes to send information automatically.

Hirschmann MCS, part of US-based Belden Wire and Cable, has introduced the qSCALE I2/I3 load moment indicator (LMI) for mobile cranes. The qSCALE I2/I3 provides the operator with a graphic display of the crane’s current load and geometric information, including the actual and allowable load, boom length, boom angle, and load radius.

Also anticipating increased demand for weighing systems, in light of the IMO requirements, Germany’s Hirschmann MSC has developed a system for container weighing that can be integrated into container handling equipment. Using its fSENS force sensors, Hirschmann can design an integrated weighing system for gantry cranes. “Individual components or retrofittable complete systems are available, consisting of consoles, controls and sensors.

The German Technical Inspectorate (TüV) Süd has certified that Hirschmann MCS “fSENS” force impact sensors can deal with overloads without a negative impact on the sensors themselves, which means they will continue to give reliable “readings.”

Some tracking service providers are finding a niche by focusing on delivering value to shippers.

ISO 17712 is in place for bolt seals, but the real growth in container security is expected to be in M2M technologies, via cellular and satellite communications.
