Antwerp looking to its left flank

Antwerp Port Authority and FPIM (Federal Participation & Investment Company) are to acquire, respectively, 75% and 25% stakes in NxtPort, the digital data platform for the port community. The contribution takes the form of capital plus a subordinated loan, together totalling €5.25M

The Port of Antwerp and the Port of San Pedro in Côte d’Ivoire have renewed their existing partnership, to foster further expansion of the West African port. Already the global leader in cocoa exports, San Pedro wants to become a leading regional hub for other commodities, such as fertilisers and cashew nuts.

Benelux ports are generally performing better than those elsewhere in northern Europe, with Antwerp the jewel in the crown.

Antwerp Port Authority has reported that it has received no response to its invitation for expressions of interest for further developments in the Deurganckdok, other than the request by MSC to be allowed to expand in Antwerp in the lockless facility on the left bank.

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the two companies in February 2011, Port of Antwerp International (PAI), the international investment arm of the Antwerp Port Authority, has invested Rs1.75B (US$31.1M) in, and formed a strategic partnership with, Essar Ports Ltd, one of India’s largest private sector port companies.
