After several weeks of niggling disputes, the union has agreed to work normally pending a ballot
Industrial action at APM Terminals Rotterdam was suspended this morning (22 February), after a package deal that the union negotiators consider fit to enter for a members’ ballot was finally hammered out.
As previously reported, the terminal has been hit by a number of stoppages tied to the state’s pension reforms and concerns over the impact on jobs of future automation at Maasvlakte II.
The 15-hour negotiation round during last night coincided with work stoppages, but ended when APMT agreed to meet half the costs of the pension gap if the pension fund will pay the other half. The new contract is to run through 2013.
