NGOs sue EU Commission over ‘flawed’ green classification for polluting ships
NewsNGOs are taking the EU Commission to court, arguing that its ‘flawed’ sustainable finance criteria improperly classify polluting planes and ships as ‘green’.
ERTMS commitments made
The European Commission, the European Union Agency for Railways and rail sector organisations have commited to the Fourth ERTMS Memorandum of Understanding
The European Rail Traffic Management System is intended to replace traditional railway signals with a computer display inside every train cab, reducing the costs of maintaining the railway, improving performance and enhancing safety.
It should offer a host of benefits to the railways and cab signalling component, the European Train Control System (ETCS), is meant to spell the end for traditional signalling.
The upshot is that line capacity will increase, for both passenger and freight services, due to shorter intervals between paths, shorter distances between trains and longer trains, although there is a view in the industry that some of the extra capacity claims have been exaggerated.
In any event, the European Commission, the European Union Agency for Railways and representatives of the European Railway sector – UIC, CER, EIM, EPTTOLA, ERFA, the ERTMS Users Group, the GSM-R Industry Group, UNIFE and UNISIG – at Innotrans, Europe's leading trade event for the rail industry convened every other September in Berlin.
