APMT’s WACT boosted to 385,000 TEU capacity
NewsRecent investments push West Africa Container Terminal’s annual handling capacity to 385,000 TEU.
Jamaica’s Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) has expanded its fleet of Konecranes Noell straddle carriers with an order for eight new
machines.
KFTL took over Kingston Container Terminal (KCT) in 2016 after the Jamaican government granted CMA CGM a 30-year concession to operate the terminal.
KCT is a transhipment hub, and currently has 25 Konecranes Noell straddle carriers, mainly of N SC 644 E type. “These are diesel-electric straddle carriers that stack containers 1-over-3. They are very eco-efficient and manoeuvrable machines, with a built-in growth path to automated operation,” said Konecranes.
The eight new straddles will be delivered in July 2018, bringing the number of Konecranes Noell machines in the fleet to 33 machines.
Kingston Freeport uses the Konecranes Noell Fleet Management System (FMS) to monitor the condition of its straddles at any time during operation.
Peter Kania, sales director, Straddle Carriers, Konecranes, said: “We have a long-standing relationship with CMA CGM group and Kingston Freeport, and I’m very pleased they decided to purchase more of our straddle carriers as part of their long-term improvement programme.”
