Canadian railroads re-regulated

Canada breathes a sign of relief as the ILWU Canada membership votes to ratify negotiated contract settlement, ending the threat of further disruption.

With the strike now in its fifth day, neither side shows any sign of moving towards a compromise; union is seeking increases of 11% and 6% in the first two years of a new contract.

The ILWU Canada walked off the job on 1 July; the BCMEA says there is no point continuing to bargain over Union demands that are “outside any reasonable framework for settlement.”
