Freight seeking a Brexit bypass
NewsUnaccompanied shipping alternatives to the dominant Dover Straits trucking model are increasing in number and capacity.
Buoyed by strong cargo growth, the UK Trust Port of Blyth has announced a major investment programme worth almost £5 mill, focused mainly on its Battleship Wharf terminal where a new 6000 m2 warehouse and 120m quay are to be constructed. The terminal already handles almost 20 percent of Blyth’s total throughput (around 0.9 mt).
Various agri-bulk sectors have shown considerable interest in the new warehouse as it has been designed in self-contained 5-6000 tonne compartments with integral bulk walling, noted the port’s commercial director Martin Lawlor.
