What prospects for the Trans-Siberian Express?

The sudden surge in demand on the Asia-Europe trades in 2003 appears to have given a boost to the fortunes of the Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR). During the first six months of last year, traffic grew by 70 percent to 123,000 TEU, with transit traffic up 73 percent at 55,300 TEU. Does this growth mean that the TSR can compete with allwater services in the Asia-Europe trade?
