ICA and Transfracht to end co-operation

News

From next January both operators will “go it alone” on the vital German seaports-Austria rail intermodal axis

Intercontainer Austria is to launch its own services connecting Vienna, Linz and Salzburg with Hamburg and Bremerhaven, using traction from Rail Cargo Austria and DB.

Neither party has given an explanation for the break. However, Transfracht (TFG) has announced that it will connect the Enns Hafen terminal to the AlbatrosExpress Austria service on 13 December, when the new timetables are introduced.

The Enns terminal will also be directly connected by rail to all the seaport terminals in Bremerhaven and Hamburg as of this date.

“This will put us in a position to be able to secure and extend our tried-and-tested products on the Austrian route and to continue to offer our customers the same high quality,” said Gerhard Oswald, TFG’s managing director.

“We are in close contact with our customers and partners in order to be able to achieve a smooth transition of traffic in good time and to meet essential operative requirements.”

ICA/TFG volume between Germany and Austria is forecast to be around 380,000 TEU this year, about 20% down on the volume in 2008.
