Electric shunters for DB Schenker

DB Schenker Rail UK (DBSR UK) says it is the first rail freight operator in the UK to introduce electric shunting units. The two battery-operated units are part of the company’s environmental improvements and will be used across its maintenance depots at Crewe and Toton, where almost 14,000 locomotive moves are undertaken each year. It is estimated that the electric shunters will reduce CO2-e by 649 tpa.
