A succession of grand schemes for modernising the Nigerian rail network and constructing new lines have been drawn up over the past decade, but little progress has been made. However, the federal government is believed to be close to concluding an agreement with China Civil Engineering Construction Company to build a new line that will run from Lagos to Port Harcourt and on to Calabar, providing access to all of the nation’s international ports
