In Rotterdam, completion of the Theemswegtracé (‘Thames Road Track’), a 4 km rail spur, means that freight trains on the Havenspoorlijn no longer have to pass via the Caland lift bridge over the Brittannië Dock. This bypass could potentially double capacity of the Betuwe Line to Germany.
