Italy-based Rail Traction Company (RTC) is piloting a train with a trailing weight of 2,500t to transport cereals from Villa Opicina (Trieste), in the northeast, to Turin (Fossano station), via the northern plain (Pianura Padana). The RFI (Italian rail infrastructure authority) ‘standard’ for freight trains is 1,600t.
