French global liner CMA CGM has announced a partnership with Nike aimed at decreasing the environmental impact of their maritime shipping activities.

Nike, renowned worldwide for its presence in the apparel and sports industry, has recently inked a deal with CMA CGM to procure sustainable biofuel for a portion of their maritime logistics operations. This joint effort signifies a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint associated with Nike’s supply chain.

Starting from July 1, 2024, until May 31, 2025, Nike will integrate sustainable biofuel into 36% of their shipping volume handled by CMA CGM. This initiative is expected to curtail Nike’s CO2 emissions by 25,000 tons, marking a substantial advancement in their environmental sustainability endeavours.

“Collaborating with a key player like Nike and taking this major step towards decarbonization is an important achievement. We are confident that our success will act as a catalyst, encouraging other carriers and customers to join us on this path to accelerate the transition towards a Net Zero industry,” says Olivier Nivoix, Executive Vice president of CMA CGM Group Lines.

This collaboration is in line with CMA CGM Group’s overarching strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 while assisting their clients in greening their supply chains.
