Electric tractors at Callao

News

DP World Callao deployed 20 Terberg electric terminal tractors, the first in South America, supported by Enel X Way’s charging facility with 10 x 200kW fast chargers.

DP World Callao has deployed 20 electric terminal tractors from Terberg (model YT 203EV).

The order was announced by DP World in June 2022, and the machines are believed to be the first electric tractors in South America.

The charging facility was constructed by Enel X Way and features 10 x 200kW fast chargers, supported by 2MW of installed power. With 10 separate stations, the charging area is sized to charge all 20 machines simultaneously.

Charged with green electricity, DP World Callao calculates the electric tractors will reduce CO2 emissions at its terminal by 2,145 tons annually.

DP World Callao aims to become carbon neutral by 2030, which requires an estimated investment of US$72M.

In 2022, the terminal announced that, from the beginning of the year, “the only equipment that will be purchased for DP World will be electric.”

In late 2023, DP World Callao took delivery of 12 new eRTGs from ZPMC. In addition, the terminal plans to convert all of its 25 diesel RTGs to run on electricity.
