South Africa’s much publicised Ngqura deepwater port project at the Coega Industrial Development Zone has received another blow with the news that the government has called off negotiations with P&O Nedlloyd and TCI Infrastructure (TCII).

For over four years, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) has considered the consortium as the preferred partner for the construction of the port’s container terminal, so the breakdown in talks means that the DPE must now begin the search for a new partner.
