Growth at Bremerhaven outpaced that at Hamburg in the first half of this year, but there is still pressure on – and concerns about – port and inland transport capacity.

Total throughput at the Bremen seaports increased by 10.3% in the first half of 2008 compared to the same period of 2007, to 37.4 Mt. Container traffic, a core business at Bremerhaven, increased by 15.9% to 2.707M TEU, or by 14% in tonnage terms to 27.23 Mt. Overall throughput at Bremerhaven increased by 13.4% to 29.81 Mt, with Bremen down marginally by 0.3% to 7.59 Mt.
