New box record for Walvis Bay

Just three months after the completion of Walvis Bay’s new container terminal, DP World has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with port operator Namport to develop a free economic zone at the Namibian port

The Namibian Ports Authority has completed the upgrade of all railway infrastructure at the Port of Walvis Bay at a cost of N$20M (US$1.3M)

The government of Zimbabwe has reiterated its commitment to making maximum use of the Port of Walvis Bay in Namibia. As previously reported in World Cargo News, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has begun work on constructing a new container terminal at the Namibian port. Despite short term delays, Zimbabwe will also develop its own dedicated dry port at Walvis Bay.

The Namibian Port Authority (Namport) has announced that it will develop a new logistics hub close to the port of Walvis Bay.

Namibia’s Walvis Bay port is to spend US$438.2M over the next three years to double its container handling capacity to 500,000 TEU/year.

The Namibian Port Authority (Namport) has received a grant of N$20M from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to conduct geotechnical, financial, and technical feasibility studies for a new five-year development plan at the Port of Walvis Bay.
