Niger to be deepened

A N36B (US$233M) project to dredge the River Niger to open it up to ocean going vessels has finally begun. A total of 572 km of river passing through eight states is expected to become navigable year round, stretching from Baro in Niger to the Gulf of Guinea coastline of the Niger Delta.
