Progress made on Tanzania ports

Progress has been made on developing new ports at both Bagamoyo and Mtwara in Tanzania. Bagamoyo, which is located to the north of Tanzania’s main port, Dar es Salaam, is being developed by China Merchants Holdings (International), which has acceded to a government request to begin construction by the end of this year, rather than next year as previously agreed. Even in Phase 1, the port is to handle post-Panamax vessels carrying up to 10,000 TEU.
