Even without the Crimean ports, Ukraine’s seaports increased their total volume by 4% to 142.8 Mt last year. As the table shows, dry cargo tonnage increased by 5% to almost 129 Mt. This result was achieved despite falls in shipments of coal (­3%) and chemicals (­33%) from the Donbas region, which along with the Eastern ports that serve it are caught up in the ongoing military conflict. There was also a shift in Russian transit cargoes to Russian Black Sea ports.
