ABP, px to develop Clean Growth Hub at Port of Barry
NewsABP and px Group plan to create a Clean Growth Hub at Port of Barry for low-carbon infrastructure and green energy manufacturing.
ABP’s Port of Ipswich handled more than 1 Mt of grain in the 2015-16 harvest year, a record total for the port
In the last harvest year, which ended on 30th June, around 1,093,481t of grain were handled, surpassing the previous best year in 2009-10 when 933,000t passed through the port. It’s also a third increase on last year’s total of 822,448t.
ABP Short Sea Ports Director, Andrew Harston said: “The tonnage of grain we have seen handled at the Port of Ipswich in the recent harvest year signifies the importance of the East Anglian farming community. Our customers Nidera and Clarkson Port Services have seen tremendous results this year and we look forward to working with them to ensure further success in the 2016/17 year.”
In H1 2016, 563,760t of grain were exported from the Port of Ipswich, compared to 368,795t in H1 2015. In the last 12 months 750 ships have called at the Port of Ipswich, a 17% increase from the previous harvest year.
Another port operated by ABP, Teignmouth in South West England, can now handle larger ships following dredging works funded and delivered by Teignmouth Harbour Commission. The tidal window for entering or leaving the port has also been extended.
“The dredging now means that the channel will eventually accommodate ships with a draught of 5.5m on a height of tide of 4m," said THC's Harbour Master/CEO Commander David Vaughan.
The work follows the completion of a new bulk store at the port by ABP earlier this year. Teignmouth handles around 250,000 tpa of agri-bulk cargoes.
