Crane drives in EU need to comply with CRA
NewsExecutives in Europe must recognize ENISA’s new Cybersecurity Certification framework, which will affect the ports industry.
In an important development in the gearbox sector, on 1 October the Siemens Mechanical Drives Unit was renamed Flender GmbH, and became a new, standalone company, wholly owned by Siemens.
Flender is a very well-known name in the port industry. After a 2005 acquisition, the business was incorporated into the Siemens mechanical drives business unit. Earlier this year, Siemens announced that it would be running the unit as a standalone company under the Siemens umbrella, with the aim of expanding its leeway for action, and providing a sharper, business-specific focus. The new set-up is to be completed worldwide by mid-2018.
“Flender is our strong brand, with a tradition more than a century old, and we’ve always done business under the name,” said Stefan Tenbrock, CEO of Siemens Mechanical Drives.
Flender recently completed a large order for Dalian Huarui Heavy Industry Group Co. Ltd’s (DHHI) project at the Roy Hill iron ore mine in Australia. Siemens and Flender supplied components for the main drive systems for two bucket-wheel stacker-reclaimers (14,400 t/h), one shiploader (12,500 t/h), five other types of stacker-reclaimer, and one double-cabin tippler system. Flender also supplied drive systems for the conveyor equipment.
