IKEA decarbonises its supply chain

Lidl, the giant European budget supermarket chain based in Germany, has opted to defer start-up of its new Tailwinds Shipping Lines until Q4 this year, due to prevailing very high prices on the charter market and ongoing supply chain problems caused by the latest Chinese coronavirus lockdown. At the same time, it needs more time to source containers and terminal capacity.

Fresh Del Monte Produce, which is one of the US’s leading vertically integrated fruit growing, marketing and distribution companies, has spun off and rebranded its third-party shipping service as Network Shipping (NWS). NWS operates a fleet of 13 vessels and several dedicated reefer container services linking South (Ecuador and Peru) and Central America (Costa Rica and Guatemala) with the US.

Peel Ports has partnered with the UK’s largest rail freight company, DB Cargo UK, to provide a new rail service for containers via the Port of Liverpool for the first time. Although Freightliner provides services to/from Garston (near Liverpool), these are mainly aimed at moving Liverpool o/d traffic over other sea ports, although the new arrangements with DB Cargo could challenge Freightliner’s Garston-Coatbridge offering

SEGRO, through affiliate VAILOG, has signed an agreement with IKEA that will see the Swedish furniture giant occupy a new 50,000 m2 multistorey warehouse at HAROPA Paris Port de Gennevilliers. SEGRO has brought forward development of the 63,000 m2 so-called Paris Air2
Logistique building to the end of 2018.
