Near zero for PNCT
NewsPort Newark Container Terminal has won the “Energy for Everyone Hero” award from PERC for using 20 propane-powered Mafi terminal tractors.
Terminal Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TTM), a joint venture company between Terberg Benschop and Sime Darby, has announced the completion of an autonomous terminal tractor pilot project in Malaysia. TTM builds Terberg tractors in Malaysia for distribution throughout Southeast Asia.
The pilot project involved TTM producing a tractor with drive-by-wire controls that was converted into an ‘Autonomous Prime Mover’ (APM) using the autonomous vehicle system from AiDrivers. The APM was tested at Port Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) and the proof-of-concept (POC) project was overseen by Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC).
“We are incredibly proud of the successful completion of the APM POC project,” said Boo Wei Ching, CEO of TTM. “This milestone reaffirms our commitment and vision to pioneering cutting-edge solutions for the logistics sector. Together with AiDrivers, PTP and HPC, we are leading the charge in revolutionising port operations through autonomous mobility and AI-driven technology.”
The POC involved navigation in container stacks and positioning tests. “Since the launch of this POC project, the APM has successfully passed both site acceptance and factory acceptance tests for autonomous operation,” said Dr Rafiq Swash, founder and CEO of AiDrivers.
“The tests included functional testing of the autonomous ecosystem for AV environment preparation, autonomous simulation, autonomous navigation in mixed traffic to showcase object detection and avoidance with both local and global path planning as well as connected operations,” he said. “The goal of TTM is to supply the logistics sector with drive-by-wire-ready tractors that are capable of plug-in system integration with AiDrivers’ autonomous ecosystem, which would significantly advance port efficiency, safety and profitability.”
