Last month BOC revealed that it had received a £7.6B from rival Linde AG in Wiesbaden. The bid took the market by surprise, as Linde is smaller than BOC in the global industrial gases field (they are the fifth and third largest respectively). A takeover would create the world’s largest industrial gas group, even bigger than France’s L’Air Liquide, and give Linde a much bigger share of the growing Chinese market.
