Sales are down, but there is still plenty of scope for technical developments, in terms of fuel economy and lower emissions.

New terminal tractors do not, in the current financial market, feature highly in the “wish list” of container terminal managers. With severe restraints on equipment purchase in place for most operators, the relative simplicity and robustness of terminal tractors make repairs a better alternative to replacement for older machines. At the same time reduced throughput takes the pressure off fleet size to allow a greater degree of “cannibalisation” and enable existing units to operate with sufficient reserve capacity.
