APM Terminals Gothenburg predicts a record year for railway volumes
NewsAPM Terminals Gothenburg anticipates a record year for rail volumes, fueled by an 8% growth in Sweden’s container market and expanded rail services.
APM Terminals has ordered two STS cranes and two widespan RMGs from Liebherr Container Cranes
The equipment will be delivered in pieces, in accordance with Liebherr's usual practice, to the Skandia container terminal and erected and commissioned locally.
All the equipment will have Liebherr ac drives. The two RMGs are understood to have a double cantilever and are for the intermodal rail yard – Gothenburg has the highest proportion of inland distribution by rail (almost 50%) of any port in Europe.
Details of the STS cranes are not known at this stage, but they will stack at least 23-wide to handle Maersk's 59m beam Triple-E vessels.
Liebherr is already working on orders for some monster STS cranes – four 24-wide units for ABP Southampton ad five 25-wide units for a Saudi customer, with lift heights of 47.5m and 46m above rail respectvely (see WorldCargo News, July 2013 crane tables on p23 and p24).
