COA tackles standards for container tracking

The Container Owners Association (COA) has released the results of a study, which shows that significant repair cost savings are available at the end of a container lease contract if the COA-endorsed Common Interchange Criteria (CIC) is used as the inspection standard.
The study was carried out by a Working Group comprising representatives of shipping lines, leasing companies and repair depots, which was set up by the COA in March 2009 to calculate the difference in estimated off-hire repair costs between the two most commonly used interchange inspection criteria – CIC and the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL)-endorsed IICL-5, which is still used by most of the IICL’s members.
