Den Hartogh Dry Bulk Logistics has taken delivery of a second batch of 500 special containers built by CIMC for use in its European Bag in Box business

The containers are 30ft in length (9.12m), 2.55m wide, and 9ft (2.74m) high, which allows two units to be loaded on a rail wagon, while delivering safe tipping operations and an optimised payload. Gross capacity is 36t (tare weight of 2.9t with 33t payload), and internal capacity is 57 m3.

For loading bulk commodities, the containers have four stainless steel top hatches in the roof, plus a rear personnel access door, allowing rear loading if required. The rear end lower section also features a letterbox flap across the width
of the box for discharging the cargo with a tipping trailer or platform.

All 500 containers were transported on BG Freight Line’s new ship bG sappHire in a single shipment

Other special features include a plywood floor with countersunk bolts trimmed with epoxy filler for easy cleaning. Many of the door and hatch components are made from stainless steel and equipped with a lubrication system to  enhance cleanliness and reduce maintenance. The containers are painted with a water-based epoxy paint system, and all internal paint and sealants are approved for food applications.

Safety features include a roof access ladder in a central position, a safety cable on the roof, and the special internal safety door behind the rear door. Koert van Wissen, business unit director, Den Hartogh Dry Bulk Logistics,  commented: “We are very proud to be adding these new containers to our fleet, and to provide the required capacity and best possible service to our customers in the polymer and food producing industries.
