Three leading container handling equimpent suppliers have reported some new contracts for 2012 and 2013 delivery

Cargotec has reported two separate orders booked in 4Q/2011 from International Container Services Inc (ICTSI). The orders will see in total four ship-to-shore cranes and 10 RTGs delivered to Mexico and eight RTGs to the Philippines.

Although Cargotec says the parties have agreed not to disclose the total value of the orders, in fact ICTSI disclosed last year that the eight Kalmar E-One2 41t SWL, 6 + 1/1 over 5 RTGs ordered for its MICT Manila facility, for delivery in 1H/2012, are worth US$10.7M (WorldCargo News, October 2011, p40-44).

The Mexican order is for four Kalmar 65t (twin 20) SWL-63m outreach STS cranes and 10 Kalmar 41t SWL, 6 + 1, 1 over 6 E-One2 RTGs, for delivery during 1H/2013 to ICTSI’s Contecon Manzanillo facility, a new, wholly-owned container terminal under construction on Mexico’s Pacific coast.

Cargotec has also reported an order from Vietnam for two more all-electric 41t SWL, 6 + 1/1 over 5 Kalmar E-One2 RTGs, this time from Tan Cang Technical Services, an affiliate of Ho Chi Minh City operator Saigon Newport, which purchased six similar machines last year. Those machines are fitted with flexible cable reel control systems from Cavotec. All the machines regenerate energy when lowering and feed power back to the grid, reducing the cost of mains power.

It is understood that Terex Noell Mobile Systems in Germany has won an order from Eurogate for 36 diesel-electric straddle carriers for the new JadeWeserPort deep water container terminal in Wilhelmshaven, phase 1 of which is due to open this August.

This order would appear to represent all of Eurogate’s phase 1 requirements for straddle carriers at JWP (cf in the August 2011 edition of WorldCargo News, p36, we reported that Phase 1 required “more than 30” machines).

Meanwhile, Konecranes has reported orders for a total of 14 50t SWL 1 over 2 straddle carriers from Eurogate for the operator’s CTH Hamburg facility. The orders were logged in 2Q and 4Q/2011 and the machines are slated for delivery during 2Q this year. This is Eurogate’s fourth order for Konecranes straddle carriers and will bring the number of Konecranes straddle carriers it operates to 55.

Konecranes has also reported an order for two 65t SWL (twin 20)-40m STS cranes from Cornelder de Moçambique in the Port of Beira, Mozambique, for delivery (fully-erect) in 2013.

The cranes will be equipped with remote access technology to “hook up” to Konecranes Truconnect system. They will also be wirelessly connected to the maintenance office, to allow monitoring and fast trouble shooting.

  • Konecranes recently completed a new automated warehouse at its its Hyvinkää, Finland factory, which will boost assembly and material flows. The factory manufactures around 5000 gears/year for Konecranes cranes.
