The Trieste Port Authority in Italy is participating in the INWAPO (Upgrading of Inland Waterways and Sea Ports) project, which forms part of the EU’s Central Europe 2007–2013 programme.

It is understood that Euroports, the European ports group controlled by Brookfield, Arcus and Antin investment funds, is preparing a bid for Multi-Service Srl in Porto Marghera (Venice), where the group already has a strong presence in the shape of Terminal Rinfuse Italia (TRI).

The Italian Port of Venice has launched an ambitious, €1.3B (US$1.8B) plan to build a container terminal 8 nautical miles off the mainland where a natural depth of 20m will allow the largest containerships in service to be accommodated.
