CMA CGM Resumes Red Sea Transit on Case-by-Case Basis

In an update to customers dated February 28th, the French liner CMA CGM Group announced a reassessment of conditions in the Southern Area of the Red Sea.

They now permit transit on a case-by-case basis, with each vessel’s route evaluated individually. Other vessels will continue to be rerouted via the Cape of Good Hope.

This decision follows the company’s cessation of Red Sea transits on February 1st, prioritizing the safety of its crews. The move came after a missile attack by Houthi rebels in Yemen on the container ship Koi, chartered by CMA CGM.

By resuming transit cautiously, the world’s third-largest container liner aims to navigate the unpredictable situation while safeguarding its operations and personnel.
