Transnet seeks bids for telescopic over-height frame

Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), an operating division of Transnet SOC Limited, has opened bids for the supply and delivery of a telescopic over-height frame for ship-to-shore (STS) cranes at Port Elizabeth Container Terminal.

The tender requires bidders to ensure that their telescopic over height frame and components are fully compatible and interchangeable with the Bromma SSX45 single and twin lift spreader, without any modifications needed. Bidders must submit a technical datasheet for the proposed frame.

The tender specifies that the equipment must be suitable for handling container types ranging from 20 feet to 45 feet in length. Additionally, the capacity requirements include a lift capacity of 40 tonnes, both for even loaded containers and with a 10% gravity point offset. The tare weight for the over height frame is expected to be 2.3 tonnes, while for the fixture assembly, it should be 2.8 tonnes.

Transnet wants all functions controllable from the master spreader, meaning actions such as actuating twist locks or telescoping should be replicated on the slave unit. The connection between the master and slave units must be entirely mechanical, without the need for hydraulic or electrical connections.

Finally, given Transnet’s endorsement of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Programme, the service provider is required to submit details of its B-BBEE status in terms of the latest Codes of Good Practice.

Proposals will be evaluated based on final weighted scores, with 80% allocated to price and 20% to meeting specific goals outlined in the scorecard.

The tender opened on May 9 and is set to close on May 30.
