ZPMC delivers final STS units to Oman

ZPMC delivers STS cranes to Salalah and Vizhinjam, dispatches RTG duo to Los Angeles.

ZPMC has dispatched the final batch of four STS cranes to the Salalah Port in Oman.

Managed by Maersk’s APM Terminals under a 30-year concession agreement with the Omani government, the port has ordered a total of 10 STS cranes from ZPMC.

The first four units were delivered in February 2024, and two more followed in late April.

The cranes have a 75m outreach and a lifting height of 58m above the rail.

The new cranes are set to replace older and smaller cranes, increasing the number of STS at the terminal to 27.

Once the expansion project is completed in the first quarter of 2025, the annual capacity at the terminal will increase from 5m to 6m TEU.

Meanwhile, two ZPMC quay cranes and two RMGs cranes are heading for India’s first deep-water port, Vizhinjam.

The STS cranes have an outreach of 72m, a backreach of 20m, a rail gauge of 35m, and a total lifting height of 74m.

The delivery comes on the back of the handover of the fourth batch of 6 single cantilever RMGs for the Adani Group’s Vizhinjam Port project, completed earlier this month.

ZPMC said that the Vizhinjam project scope involves a total of 24 rail-mounted cranes, comprising 10 double cantilever and 14 single cantilever cranes.

Finally, the company said two RTGs have been dispatched to the Port of Los Angeles in the United States.

The diesel-powered RTGs are intended for the West Basin Container Terminal, which is operated by Ports America. They feature a capacity of 40t, with a span of 6+1 rows wide and one-over-five stacking capability.
