Konecranes will have 29 new straddles up an running in Barcelona within just a few months of receiving the order.

APM Terminals Barcelona gets straddles in quick time

Konecranes has provided more details on the larger order for 29 straddle carriers it booked from APM Terminals in Q1 this year.


The order is for 29 diesel-electric Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers model NSC 644 E, and they will all be equipped with the Konecranes Noell twin-lift spreader model NTS 62 F. This is a fixed twin 20 spreader design, and one of the three spreaders in Konecranes straddle carrier spreader range. The machines will have a maximum speed of 24 km/hr.


Konecranes stressed how quickly it was able to deliver the machines. “The delivery times are exceptionally short, considering the size of the order, which was booked in the first quarter,” the company stated. “The first batch of 16 machines were ready for acceptance in June 2019, the second batch will be ready in October 2019”.


“APMT is a major global operator of container terminals and I’m very pleased that APMT granted us this order,” said Peter Kania, Head of Straddle Carrier Sales, Konecranes Port Cranes. “The machines will be manufactured and pre-tested at our factory in Würzburg, Germany, with all the care and quality that we are known for,” he added.
