Birkir Holm Gudnason approved as Samskip's new CEO

Birkir Holm Gudnason replaces Palmar Oli Magnusson at the helm of the fast-growing multimodal shipping line; changes at Louis Dreyfus; new CEO at the American Association of Railroads; new forestry terminal project manager for LHG Lübeck

The supervisory board of Samskip has approved the appointment of Birkir Holm Gudnason as the new CEO. He joins from Icelandair, where worked for the last 18 year, latterly as CEO, and replaces Palmar Oli Magnusson, who will leave the group by his own request, but will look after the North Atlantic service until Gudnason has taken over his new position.


Ian McIntosh has replaced Gonzalo Ramierez Martiarena as CEO of the Louis Dreyfus Company Holding BV in Rotterdam, being promoted from his current position as Chief Strategy Officer. Patrick Treuer replaces McIntosh as CSO. In what appears to be a shake-up at one of the "big five" global grain traders, Armand Lumens has stepped down from his post as CFO and has been replaced by Frederico Cerisoli.


Washington, DC, USA: The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has announced Ian Jeffries as its next President and CEO, from January 1, 2019, succeeding long-time President and CEO Edward R Hamberger. Prior to joining the AAR in 2013, Jefferies worked for more than a decade in government, including as a senior policy advisor to the chairman of the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. He has also worked for the US Department of Transportation, Office of the Inspector General and the US Government Accountability Office.

Hasko Behrens has been appointed Planning Manager by Lübeck Hafen Gesellschaft for the new forest products terminal at Scandinavia Quay. The construction of the new warehouses will begin in early 2019. Behrens has been working for Finnish-Swedish forestries shipper Stora Enso, one of LHG’s leading customers. "With Hasko Behrens, we are strengthening our know-how as a paper load hub as well as our quality management," said LHG’s Managing Director Sebastian Jürgens.


Hong Kong-based ship management company Wallem Group has appointed Frank Coles as its new CEO, replacing Simon Doughty, who announced his decision to step down earlier this year.

Stefan Schönbrunn has joined Egon Christ at the helm of automobile releasing agent AFG Allgemeine Fahrzeugübernahme-Gesellschaft mbH, which has been part of Mosolf Group since the beginning of 2018. He succeeds Bernhard Ewe, who will retire at the end of this year. Schönbrunn will focus on releasing agent activities and digitisation strategies.


Christopher Matalou has been appointed CFO of Union Tank Eckstein GmbH & Co KG (UTA), replacing Dieter Berg.

Richard Turner, European Director of Global Risk Solutions at RSA Insurance Group was elected President of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) at IUMI’s annual conference in Cape Town.


Amsterdam, the Netherlands: Sean Healy has been appointed COO, FedEx Express Europe, taking over from Michael Holt, who is retiring. Healy was formerly SVP, Transportation, International, Planning and Strategy at FedEx
