E-trucks for Contargo

Multimodal operator Contargo is starting to phase in electric trucks for "last mile" distribution over its intermodal terminals. A DAF CF Electric Innovation truck, which incorporates VDL’s E-Power technology, will join the drayage fleet at Duisburg Intermodal Terminal (DIT).

This truck has a gvw of 37 tonnes, so is suitable for most container haulage requirements. It is equipped with a 210 kW (240 kW) electric motor, which gets its energy from the 170 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

 

Operating range is said to be 100 kms. According to DAF, quick charging of the batteries can be performed in 30 mins or a full charge can be accomplished in as little as 1.5 hours. Freight (un)loading time can thus be used to charge the battery pack. A second DAF CF Electric Innovation truck will be added to the DIT drayage fleet later this year.

 

Four more E-trucks will be operated out of Contargo terminals in Neuss and Emmerich later this year, two from Framo and two from Eforce.
