The cars fitted with bogies having an increased axle load capacity of 25 tons will operate in the Russia-Poland-Russia transport corridor.

The 40ft cars, type 13-6851-01 for 30ft, 40ft of 2 x 20ft carriage, have a gross load of 80 tons, giving a payload of 60.5 tons as tare weight is 19.5 tons. The cars are equipped with reinforced a centre sill and stationary fitting twist locks enabling transportation of heavyweight containers. This, says UWC, sets the cars apart from the counterparts operating within the 1520-gauge space.

UWC continues that the key advantage of the platforms is the undercarriage: the 18-9855 bogie has an increased axle load capacity (of up to 25 tons and a higher service reliability due to an improved design of bearing castings and the spring equalizing system, a reinforced solebar, high casting quality and wear-resistant materials, including high-strengthen alloy ductile iron.

The application of a 25 ton bogie means that the time between repairs can be extended to eight years, or 800,000 km. The service life of the platform is 40 years.

The platform model 13-6851-01 was developed by All-Union Research and Development Centre for Transportation Technology and has been manufactured by Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant since 2016.

Marcin Witzchak, CEO of Laude Smart Intermodal SA, is quoted: “Our company is rapidly growing and moving forward with the aim of becoming the leading provider of logistics services in Central and Eastern Europe. That is why we focus on the quality of our freight car fleet.

"When engaging new rolling stock, we select the best suppliers and product solutions only. The UWC platforms fully conform to our high-quality standards, and the production capabilities of our Russian partner allow us to build up the required scope of supply.”

Laude operates intermodal trains between Poland, Russia, the Ukraine and Molodva and it operates a car reloading service at an intermodal logistics centre in Zamośč. It also provides road and inland waterway services.

  • UWC has been assigned Q2 quality status by Deutsche Bahn, which means it is now qualified to tender for DB freight cars. In addition to the DB audit, the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant has passed certification to EN 15085 Welding of Railway Vehicles and Components. The certification audit was carried out by TÜV Rheinland.
