Rupert’s export boom

The Port of Prince Rupert in Northern British Columbia is experiencing a sustained export boom as forest product producers take advantage of empty containers flowing back to China to containerise their products. The port’s Fairview Container Terminal handled 410,000 TEU in 2011, an increase of 20% on 2010. Loaded export containers grew 59% to 100,389 TEU and around 73% of export cargoes were lumber, pulp, logs and other wood products.
