Port asks Commission for funding to link on-dock rail at East Blair One Terminal to mainline.
Port of Tacoma staff are recommending its Commission approve a $1M project to complete a 700 ft rail spur between the East Blair One terminal and the existing rail line along Alexander Avenue.
Last year Tacoma relocated operations from Pier 7 to the East Blair One terminal, which was completed in 2009 and has on-dock rail. However, the on-dock yard is not connected to the existing rail line and rail cargo is currently transferred by truck between East Blair and the Pierce County Terminal intermodal yard. “This additional move affects the timing of cargo throughput, as well as an adverse effect on operating cost” port staff advised.
The port is now seeking funding to connect the on-dock facility. Once approved construction could be completed by November.
