Copenhagen-based Maersk Line has won the battle for Hamburg Süd, reportedly concluding a deal worth about US$4B with the Oetker Group. Hamburg Süd’s future as an independent carrier had been uncertain for a while, especially after the takeover of UASC by Hapag-Lloyd, and the ongoing rationalisation taking place in the industry.
