Provisionally the Port of Gdansk handled more than 36.3 Mt in 2016, a new record

According to the Gdansk port authority, the port is now in sixth place among Baltic Sea ports, its highest position so far. This is based on recently published data on the Baltic ports summarising the first 11 months of the year.

Traffic at the port has risen for the sixth year in a row and for the first time ever, general cargo has the highest percentage share, with container traffic up by 16% in unit terms to 1.27M TEU and liquid fuels, traditionally the port's biggest category, slipping back slightly to around 13 Mt.

Countering the general situation in North Continent, coal traffic also increased and as of 22nd December the port needed just under 100,000t to top the 5 Mt mark. Other dry bulks including ores are estimated at 3.6 Mt, the third best result in the last 10 years.
