Smartkai safe mooring being tested

DFDS Seaways’ ro-ro vessel SELANDIA SEAWAYS was successfully berthed in Cuxhaven in a test of the Smartkai digital assistance mooring system

Backed by a grant of €1.5M from the state of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), the state’s ports authority Niedersachsen Ports (NPorts) has installed Siemens’ Siharbor shore power supply system at the offshore ro-ro vessel berth, so vessels can “cold iron” instead of adding to pollution with emissions from auxiliary engines

NPorts, the administration organisation for the infrastructure of the seaports of Lower Saxony, is undertaking important projects in the port of Cuxhaven and in Emden. In Cuxhaven, a new berth (No.4) with a 240m quay length and back-up area of 8.5-ha is being created. Pile sheet driving has started and rinsing has commenced.
