APL in cold ironing “breakthrough”…

APL is conducting tests in the Port of Oakland on its own cold ironing system which, it claims, is more cost-effective than other designs and will therefore help to overcome the resistance of the shipping industry to the demands of port authorities and air quality regulators that cold ironing be installed on all ships so that their auxiliary engines can be shut down in port.
