Signs of the first step on the road to recovery for tank container operators – increasing volumes – are appearing. However, the path back to better days will be long and arduous.

Tank container operators have reported revenue decreases of 15-20% for the first nine months of 2009 compared to the same period of last year. Tank shipments fell by a quarter in the first part of 2009 as the full impact of the global recession was felt for the first time. In response to high inventories at their customers’ premises and declining demand, chemical manufacturers had no option but to curtail production.
