Dubai-based Transworld Group and Japanǁs Suzue Corporation are establishing a joint venture to “explore and exploit” logistics opportunities in their core operating areas of the Middle East, South Asia and Japan. The JV agreement was signed in Dubai by Ramesh S. Ramakrishnan, chairman of Transworld Group; and Takahiro Suzue, president and representative director of Suzue Corporation.
The new entity is designed to offer their respective customers in these regions with a full suite of supply chain management, international freight forwarding, customs clearance, warehousing, distribution, land transport and other related logistics services.
In addition, the new company will evaluate investment opportunities in these areas, particularly when it comes to acquiring land for the development of new logistics and/or storage/distributionrelated activities.
In terms of responsibilities, Suzue will control business development and logistics services in Japan, Transworld Logistics FZE will handle operations in the UAE and Middle East Gulf region, and Shreyas Shipping and Logistics Limited, which is owned by Transworld, will handle businesses in the Indian subcontinent.
Ramakrishnan said: “Our joint venture agreement with Suzue assumes strategic importance due to the enhanced trade ties between the UAE, India and Japan. The UAE, for instance, has established a joint working committee to coordinate policies in a wide range of areas from defence, nuclear energy, oil, security, health and trade with Japan.”
Takahiro Suzue was equally enthusiastic about the agreement, particularly as India and the Middle East are regions targeted by Suzue for future growth. He explained: “Our Joint Venture alliance with Transworld will allow us to synergise our experience and expertise, and to extend our services in this region and beyond.
