MOL bulker for Tata Steel to feature Wind Challenger sail

MOL and Tata Steel have announced that they are jointly developing an environmental friendly bulker for the transport of raw materials

The aim is to operate a new bulk carrier concept that reduces GHGE forTata’s transport needs. MOL has already developed with partners the Wind Challenger design. The vessel is equipped with a fixed, vertically telescoping hard sail. The first vessel is a 99,000dwt collier slated for delivery in 2022.

 

Peeyush Gupta, Vice President,  Supply Chain at Tata Steel, said: “The objective of the agreement is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the ocean transportation of raw materials  for the production of steel.  MOL group’s environmental vision plan sets  a target of net zero emissions by 2050.

 

Other shipping companies developing hard sail systems include K Line and Airseas SAS.
