The move follows MACS success in being awarded a new five-year shipping contract with the St Helena Government and the launch of a new monthly service connecting the island (Ruperts Bay) Walvis Bay, Luderitz, Cape Town and on an inducement basis Mossel Bay. MACS is deploying  the 3,345dwt general cargo ship KAROLINE, which has two cranes capable of lifting 35t of cargo each, on the new service.

MACS will now offer shippers/consignees in Namibia and on inducement Mossel Bay options to connect with its MACS mainline Europe and GAL US Gulf coast services via Cape Town.

“The new service is creating a reliable link for the Namibian fishing industry with the European export markets,” said MACS. “And for the first time, the energy industry is getting a scheduled reliable multipurpose feeder connection to deliver their products to Lüderitz and, on demand, to Mossel Bay via sea.

MACs latest deal with the St Helena Government includes a five-year extension option.
