MSC to increase size gap, CMA CGM to surpass Maersk
NewsMSC is poised to increase size gap over CMA CGM, and Maersk will become the second-largest carrier; Hapag-Lloyd aims to maintain top-5 status.
This decision is in response to the need to adapt to a new normality, driven by the necessity to circumnavigate Africa.
Starting in March, COSCO Shipping’s 20,000 TEU container ships will begin regular calls at the Italian port of La Spezia.
The Chinese liner recently announced this news, confirming the inclusion of four units of these types of vessels in the rotation of the Asia Mediterranean Service (AEM1).
Each ship is approximately 400 meters long.
This decision is in response to the need to adapt to a new normality, driven by the necessity to circumnavigate Africa, leading to the creation of two new independent loops in the Mediterranean, employing larger capacity container ships.
“We are proud and ready to welcome the COSCO SHIPPING Aries, the first in a series of ultra-large container vessels deployed in the AEM1 (MED1) service operated by the Chinese carrier within the Ocean Alliance,” commented Matteo Ferrando, Key Account Manager at Contship Italia. “Our terminal has already demonstrated its ability to handle operationally this type of container ship, thus reaffirming our commitment to meeting every need and delivering the service excellence that our customers expect.”
